Pruning grasses and bamboos is normally carried out in the spring. The grasses are normally cut back to ground level to make way for the new seasons shoots. Bamboos are kept within their desired space by cutting back invasive shoots as they appear. Some people like to trim off lower placed leaves in order to expose the distinctive woody or stem section of the bamboo.
